Cloud computing as an enabler to a circular economy: A systematic scoping and bibliometric review

Luísa Fancelli Coelho, João Emmanuel D'Alkmin Neves

Resumo

Cloud Computing (CC) enables the creation of differentiated business models for companies, resulting in lower costs, increased profits through a pay-per-usage model, and addressing environmental issues. In this context, the Circular Economy (CE) model could be applied to ensure a commitment to solving environmental issues through CC business models, integrating CC and CE methodologies. However, CE methodologies may be general or inconclusive. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate CC studies and determine the feasibility of integrating the advantages of this business model with the principles of the circular economy through a systematic scoping and bibliometric reviews. The results indicate that there are multiple approaches to addressing environmental issues related to CC using a CE framework solution. However, there are limited initiatives addressing other issues beyond energy efficiency, especially in terms of Loop and Regenerate.
